Canaan Valley has so much to offer in the
Winter. From November to April it’s not
uncommon to see the valley blanketed in
snow. Canaan Valley’s legendary weather
patterns are directly attributed to its
elevation and geographical location. With
summit elevations jutting over 4,200 feet
from the 3,200 foot valley floor and its
location being directlyin the path to catch
winter Nor’easters, Canaan Valley is
guaranteed a lot of snow! Most years the
annual average stacks up to 160 inches.
That’s over 13 feet!

In the Spring, the woodlands and cold-
water streams come alive. It attracts
hikers, cyclists, bird watchers, photo-
graphers and folks looking for the first
blooms of spring. February through
June is the best time for fly fishing in
the Potomac Highlands. Trout fishing
in the Blackwater River and Blackwater
Canyon are at it's peak this time of
year. This is a discounted season
for guests at Timberly.
Summer is a delight. Rarely does the
temperature exceed 85 degrees. There
is very little humidity and there are
no mosquitoes to contend with. There
are countless opportunities for outdoor
activity at nearby Blackwater Falls,
Canaan Valley State Park, Canaan Valley
Wildlife Refuge and the Dolly Sods
Wilderness Area.

striking. Most visitors thoroughly enjoy
the drive to and from Timberly. There
is a veritable explosion of color starting
at the end of September and continuing
